The Sopoteka Library invites you to a talk with Iwona Kienzler, author of the book 'Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Złodziejka mężów. Życie i miłości'. (Note that this event will be primarily/entirely in Polish).
Maria Skłodowska-Curie was an outstanding personality: in 1893, as the first representative of the fairer sex, she obtained a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematical sciences at the Sorbonne; she was the first female professor of the Sorbonne; the first woman and one of only four people to be awarded the Nobel Prize twice. Our compatriot is also the first and only woman resting in the Paris Pantheon and at the same time the first non-French person buried there.
Iwona Kienzler's publication tells the story of Skłodowska not just as an outstanding scholar and her discoveries, but also as a woman, loved and rejected by her beloved, who broke incorrect stereotypes, who loved and who was ready to make huge sacrifices for love. The author also presents Skłodowska as a wife and single mother, who combined more or less successfully educational responsibilities with scientific work while still devoting a lot of space to her complicated relations with her daughters.
The event takes place as part of the Pod rękę z Bohaterem (Hand in Hand with a Hero) project which is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
