Rugby Club OGNIWO SOPOT
Ogniwo Sopot is a legend of polish rugby. Winning nine times in its history the Polish Championship and the same number of times Polish Cup, permamently reappear among the most successful clubs in Poland.
Rugby section was founded in 1965. Ogniwo has become a symbol of sports Sopot after 1980, when Edward Hodura - rugby player, coach and educator of youth, moved from Lechia Gdańsk to Sopot. In 1984, promoted to the first division, and in 1987 won the Polish Championship for the first time. The pupils of Hodura senior (who died in 1991) were: Grzegorz Kacala, sons: Sylwester and Jaroslaw, Robert Barneta, Krystian Kornath, Zbigniew Piwowarski, Arkadiusz Wielgosz, Maciej Stachura, Waldemar Szwichtenberg and Dariusz Komisarczuk.
Ogniwo Sopot many years is considered a leading polish club in training of youth. We have grown lots of Polish National Team representatives in all age categories and juniors and cadetes have gained about forty Polish Championsip medals (including 17 gold medals). Our coaching staff consists of recognized experts in Poland and the Stadium of E. Hodura is the most important center to children and youth competitions.
